There are all sorts of rumours floating around the hill about actual shiny new lifts, but absolutely nothing substantiated. I kind of suspect we'll be subsidising other Powdr properties who aren't having as good of a winter as we are instead. Such is life.

Have you guys gotten the engineering done yet and started rebuilding the appropriate assemblies or is the that all being left till the summer?

Hey being able to be reused instead of headed to the scrapyard is always a good thing.

If it is removed I bet it will be moved to Lutsen and used for parts or, less likely, for future lift expansions.

Could be, Both Cupid and Prancer Riblet double lifts are for sale, I doubt both will be relocated unless it is in the upper Midwest. Both haul ropes are in need of replacement, and they both should have drive and control upgrades. The Donner Triple is also still on the property and for sale, originally was talk of that lift replacing Ullr Chair at Lutsen (it would make a great short beginner lift) but that idea has since gone away. I think for the most part future lift plans for Lutsen and Granite will most likely no longer be used lifts. Except for possibly the former Caribou chair going on the north side of Moose.

Glad to hear both resorts now have the capital necessary to invest in new, modern lift systems. The Donner Triple would make an excellent replacement for Ullr chair, though, with its bail style chairs and increased capacity. Center-pole doubles are becoming a rarity these days, and they're not as beginner-friendly as bail carriers.
While I'm happy that Granite has green-lighted the HSQ for this summer, I really feel that Lutsen's gondi should be a higher priority.

It is nice that some of the best ski areas in the midwest can have modern, high-speed lift systems. It will be interesting to watch the additions at these resorts in the next few years.

Is the old drive of Caribou still sitting next to the race shack at the top of Caribou?

Yes, it is still sitting there, and I believe that the p tube that held it up is still in place behind the new Caribou Express top lift shack (the top of the new lift runs slightly left of the old lift unload). Pretty good reason to leave that equipment up there if it does end up being installed on the new north moose expansion. The rest of the old caribou lift is currently being stored on a service road bone yard between the lower Caribou and Timberwolf chair.

I believe it has to do with the issue of existing structures around the lift terminals- very limited room..

Any idea of who installed it? I thought they were still trying to get permits and they were given crap for cutting trees before they had them.
