Copper (well, our lift maintenance department) will be building yet another surface lift this spring. Don't get all excited, though. It's merely the former Storm King, and it will be a summer-only lift for the Woodward on-snow camps. Pretty happy it won't be a full-service lift.

There are all sorts of rumours floating around the hill about actual shiny new lifts, but absolutely nothing substantiated. I kind of suspect we'll be subsidising other Powdr properties who aren't having as good of a winter as we are instead. Such is life.

When I stopped by in December, Woody was saying the new park lift would pretty short (4-5 towers). Woody did say that K replacement and Tucker are on deck but his take on those was the same as yours.

Have you guys gotten the engineering done yet and started rebuilding the appropriate assemblies or is the that all being left till the summer?

Hey being able to be reused instead of headed to the scrapyard is always a good thing.

Heard Officially, that Granite Peak's next HSQ replacing the east side Cupid Double is a go for this summer!, it will be once again Leitner- Poma, probably a close twin to the Dasher Express built in 2012. Also have heard talk of removal and no replacement of the Prancer chair or "old Rib Mountain chair #1" (1969 Riblet Double). The chair is in still in great shape and still used on Saturdays , but the haul rope is nearing its life expectancy. Hopefully it will be fixed or, at least upgraded with new equiptment.

If it is removed I bet it will be moved to Lutsen and used for parts or, less likely, for future lift expansions.

Anyone with inside knowledge at W-B (Aussierob) know why they chose to only get 8 person cabins instead of 10 on the WVG? Is it a money issue, or would the cabins not fit in the terminals, or perhaps the system isn't truly capable of transporting 10 people in every car?

Could be, Both Cupid and Prancer Riblet double lifts are for sale, I doubt both will be relocated unless it is in the upper Midwest. Both haul ropes are in need of replacement, and they both should have drive and control upgrades. The Donner Triple is also still on the property and for sale, originally was talk of that lift replacing Ullr Chair at Lutsen (it would make a great short beginner lift) but that idea has since gone away. I think for the most part future lift plans for Lutsen and Granite will most likely no longer be used lifts. Except for possibly the former Caribou chair going on the north side of Moose.

Glad to hear both resorts now have the capital necessary to invest in new, modern lift systems. The Donner Triple would make an excellent replacement for Ullr chair, though, with its bail style chairs and increased capacity. Center-pole doubles are becoming a rarity these days, and they're not as beginner-friendly as bail carriers.

While I'm happy that Granite has green-lighted the HSQ for this summer, I really feel that Lutsen's gondi should be a higher priority.

It is nice that some of the best ski areas in the midwest can have modern, high-speed lift systems. It will be interesting to watch the additions at these resorts in the next few years.

Is the old drive of Caribou still sitting next to the race shack at the top of Caribou?

Yes, it is still sitting there, and I believe that the p tube that held it up is still in place behind the new Caribou Express top lift shack (the top of the new lift runs slightly left of the old lift unload). Pretty good reason to leave that equipment up there if it does end up being installed on the new north moose expansion. The rest of the old caribou lift is currently being stored on a service road bone yard between the lower Caribou and Timberwolf chair.

Beaver Creek has finally updated the sign at the base of the Centennial Express announcing the new chondola. I can't get the picture to load but it says that a new high speed combination lift will be built with six passenger chairs and 10 passenger gondola cabins and it also says that the capacity of the new lift will be 3,400 people per hour. This picture basically confirms the fact that the new lift will be by Doppelmayr, as the cabin is a CWA and the chair is a Doppelmayr model chair. I believe that this will be the first use of CWA Omega IV 10 passenger cabins in the U.S. since all the other gondolas have had 8 or 12 passenger cabins. This will be a big improvement since Beaver Creek is hosting the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships.

I believe it has to do with the issue of existing structures around the lift terminals- very limited room..

Any idea of who installed it? I thought they were still trying to get permits and they were given crap for cutting trees before they had them.

Is it another used lift or are they going through SkyTrac?
