New Lifts 2014

floridaskier's Photo floridaskier 26 Dec 2012

It's never too early to start talking about the future.

Deer Valley is talking about building a gondola between the top part of Main Street in Park City (the Wasatch Brew Pub parking lot) and somewhere in Silver Lake Village. This has come up before, but it sounds promising from this article in the Park Record. Doppelmayr is not surprisingly mentioned as the likely manufacturer.

I had been wondering what DV would do now, since most of the obvious expansion terrain nearby is now used and they now have a high speed quad everywhere they could possibly need one. This would certainly be a newsworthy addition to get them back to their Ski magazine number 1. It would be great for all the Silver Lake vistors, since it's a tough drive in the snow to get back to town, and there's not much going on up there at night. Looking at the map of the area though, I have no idea where they would put the line. It's all private land, but there are a lot of houses on the straight line between the top of Main Street and Silver Lake that they would have to talk to. It might take two angle stations to avoid enough houses to make it happen. There isn't a whole lot of room at either end for a terminal. They said it could be done by 2014-15, but the devil is in the details. I'd file this one under 'pipe dreams' for now

Anything else on tap so far for 2014?

Bear Valley has received approval from their EIR and master plan, which includes a a lift to connect the village, with the ski resort. According to their master plan, it was scheduled for spring of 2010, I don't think they will make that deadline. 2013 might be a little soon, I would guess no earlier than 2014.

I'm surprised that Bear Valley is still pursuing this after the recent hardship it went through last summer where it had to lay off the majority of its staff, including lift maintenance.

I believe the capital will come from outside of the operating budget of the ski area, seeing that they are owned by a resort development company I am sure they are looking for either loans or investors to back the expansion.

From the article
"The partnership is now actively at work securing the capital needed to fund the planned expansion"

I once had the pleasure of having the difference of wages and capital expenditures explained to me while being temporarily laid off by a GM.

Supposedly it won't be installed until the 2014-2015 season, although for all I know it could take place this summer.

I'm very happy to hear about this. I love those old center-pole Riblets, so I'm glad to know it will live on. I'm sure Mt. Spokane is excited to get it for their expansion, too.

A long awaited replacement for Killington's Snowdon Quad is expected for 2014-2015. They're also putting in the new South Ridge lift that season, which will be the old Snowdon Quad. They can't do it this Summer due to the new Peak Lodge construction.

Mt. Bachelor just had its master plan approved. No word if anything will happen for 2014, but I could see the Sunrise Express HSS going in and the former Sunrise Express being relocated to become the new Rainbow HSQ. Looks like Outback Express is staying put for a few more years since it was just recently painted. There have been talks since 2009 about having it replaced, but it only runs weekends and during holiday breaks.

Really? I thought it was a round-trip pod in and of itself. Guess you can ski all that terrain from NWX. Sunrise threw me until I realised it's been there for 20 years.

This one should go in the eventual "New Lifts for 2015", but here is a mention of a new J1 lift at June...

Just off the rumor mill, Sunday River having Skytrac rebuild/replace Lift 8 (Spruce Peak Triple) with a fixed grip quad with carpet assist loading. We'll see...

Looks like Whitefish Resort in Montana will be installing a used fixed grip triple for the 2014 ski season.

It appears we only thought it was gone. Looks like the just-removed Storm King will move down the hill and to the west to become the new Woodward park lift. It will operate only for the summer camps, so don't get too excited. I'm guessing it'll spend the winter in our shop getting refurbished, as much as you can do that to a one-of-a-kind highly used lift.

Is this lift change happening in 13 or 14? I checked both their website and facebook page and there is no mention of it for this summer. When they replaced Little Cloud, it was discussed every step of the way. Just wonderning.

I just saw the announcement on Snowbird's website yesterday. The lift is going in this summer (13).
