Can fixed grip lifts download. If so which kinds, and where, and if you have any photos?
Thanks,
Dan

I'm not sure but probably not because they cannot slow down in the terminals.

Although more rare, I have seen people downloading on FG lifts. Usally this is only done for staff.
I've fairly frequently seen people downloading on Exhibition at A-Basin...they even have downloading instructions posted at the top of the lift. There's also an alarm that goes off as they approach the bottom terminal to warn the operators to slow it down.

madden lift at home wood is down loadable due too the fact their is no easy way down the main face, although Lombard street is easy enough for most beginners, but its classified as a blue square.

The Skyride at Lake Compounce is a Fixed Grip Quad that is downloadable, although the entire lift is designed as a skyride and you ride around the return bullwheel. Here's a link to the video off of Lake Compounce's website riding the lift: http://www.lakecompo.../on_skyride.mov

Why so slow, is that so the chairs stay on the line?

Fixed-grip downloading is more of an operational issue than a mechanical one. Because the lift must be stopped to load and unload, most areas won't do it- it inconveniences passengers riding the uphill side. I can think of a few places that do, however. Crystal will download chair 6 if the skier in question can't ski down due to lack of ability. They'll put a patroller on as an escort. We used to download quite frequently on the old Midway Shuttle as well. I've also seen a couple of people riding down on chair 2 at Alpental.

Silver Star and Town Lift at PCMR are downloadable. I think they slow it down to get on and off

I have been to three ski areas in California where downloading a fixed grip is normal. At June Mountain, the J1 chair is downloaded all the time if there is a lack of snow at the bottom of the mountain and that lift is an old double. The same thing happens at Mt. Baldy on chair 1 and Mt. Waterman on chair 1 if there is not enough snow or if people can't ski down to the base area.

Any regen. lift can download, as long as your line gear is set up for it and most that are not, can at least download a percentage.
The trick that comes is whether your auxiliary drive is direct or hydrostatic.
If it is hydrostatic, other forms of braking need to be applied, such as an electric decelerator.

Just a thought, maybe we should have two topics. One for downloading, and the other for the IP adress thing. It gets confusing.

Canyon Quad at Killington used to download for spring skiing. It would be load two people skip a chair, load two people skip two chair, and on and on and on. It was slowed down to 200fpm if I remember correctly which made for a loooooooonnnnngggg ride, up or down.

shoot, it's still a ways from the base of canyon to the base of the ski area. Did everyone just walk the last leg or was there snow down there?

The old Clipper triple chair at DV dowloaded, similar to how Town at PCMR does today.

We download all our lifts with varying degrees of capacity, well, not our carpets and rope tow but all the others can be. We also slow to load and unload.
