And here's the original concept. Looks more like a 767 than this thing

Well, look at the concept. Really modern looking.

I guess Boeing thought it was too modern, so they went back to a more traditional design

all their other planes work fine so that kind of a waste unless its has a new radical use

I think it's goign to replace the 767.

If they do that, all they'll have is:
-next-gen 737 (replaced old 737 and 757)
-7E7
-777
-aging 747

i see
personnaly i prefer airbus's

I also prefer the airbus, I think they fly smoother. Plus boeing already has enough good planes and the only thing that would benfit them in a new plane is if it were much faster.

that wont be happening soon. The concorde shows us why. The sonic boom is the main problem.

Boeing's replacement of the 747 seems to be the 777

The new plane seems kind of a waste, they should just upgrade the 767 with new engines, controls and a fly by wire system.

I wonder if you can stop the sonic boom from happening. Maybe if they made the plane have a spoiler that would help, but who knows that might just cause disaster. I say a spolier because that would disrupt the air waves.

the sonic boom is inevitable
quietinging it is the only option

Not only quieting it, but focusing it in another direction: upwards. It is possible to make the boom unheard on the ground due to a combination of these.

The new 7E7 is supposed to be super-efficient, with a body made of composit materials. Who knows if it will be or not.

once the sonic boom isnt heard on the ground, and the jet engines become more efficient plane travel over mach 1 will be very common

You wont be able to redirect a sonic boom, it is like a rock on a pond, the waves travel out in every direction.
Reply

floridaskier's Photo floridaskier 15 Nov 2003

That won't work. Like Bill said, it travels in every direction
