Snowbird Having Trouble with Gad 2 Again

Gad 2 at Snowbird has been shut down most of this week and currently is not running due to a problem with the mechanics. I'm not sure on the details about it but that is the story I've heard from an employee.
All I can say is that Snowbird is having some bad luck lately with the old FG Dopplamyear's as some of you may remember last year they had a major problem with grip slippage on Gad 2 and were forced to check all the like grips. Talk about inconvience especially during this busy time of the year. Hope they get it all fixed and back working again in time for me to get some turns on Gadzooks.

Any idea what's the problem this time? A major mechanical problem that put all six Doppelmayr doubles out of service for a while would really screw Snowbird, especially during the busiest time of year. I wonder if it's the grips again, or something else

As far as I know only Gad 2 is shut down so its not as bad as last year but it still makes for a more congested hill during one of the busier times of the year. Not going to be fun. I'll be skiing at Alta or Solitude during this problem.

www.snowbird.com says that they are replacing the bullwheel and it's scheduled to re-open jan 28th. It didn't indicate if it was top or bottom.

It was one of the four origanal lifts at Snowbird first built in 1971.

Well they reopened the lift today and after getting off of school early I headed up there and fortunetly for me they opened the lift just as I was getting up there so I was able to get two and a half feet of powder on STH and about the same on Tiger Tail. Great skiing when no one to speak of has been there for over month. The lift seemed to be functioning fine and the top bullwheel is shiny and new now. Hopefully this will be the lastt matnience problem for a long time for Snowbird.
