I was at Lake Louise today and snapped a few pictures of their lifts. The gondola still needs some work, but they are hoping to open it at the end of January. Here are some pix of the gondola.

Wow, a Leitner gondola station, that's really cool. I wonder if the gondola will have Leitner grips too because it seems like it would be a lot cheaper to get new grips rather than convert everything inside to use the TB grip design.

So maybe LL only used the old towers and cabins from the Gold Coast gondola?

Nevermind, it looks like the gondola does have the TB grip on the cabins. I wonder why?

The gondola had many parts re-fabricated. Yes it uses the double TB-41 grips. The towers are brand new, but the heads are from the old gondola. The terminals were custom made in the LL shop.

Hey Zage, I presume you got a tour of some of the lifts while you were there? :)

Yes, I went inside the vault drive room of the gondola and inside the drive terminal of the Top of the World chair. It was cool. :D

Is the summit platter as long as it looks from the map and who made it? Also do you know if they intend to keep the old gondola line up and does the new one cross over or under it?

I did use a digital camera, but the memory was full. The Summit platter is pretty long. It is wicked fast for a surface lift. The platter is a Mueller. The old gondola is being ripped out this summer.

The new gondola goes over the old one, and goes near the Eagle chair.

Nice pics. The guts of the gondi look eerily similar to my second home (the American Flyer). It has the same double electric motor setup, the same vault drive with long-ass shaft, same grips (well, single TB grips anyway). I did notice that there is actually a ring gear attached to the drive bullwheel with the hydrostatic evac motor.
Cameron, this is at least the second time you've wondered why LL didn't replace the TB grips. Do you have something against them? My opinion is that if they work, use 'em. Plus the Omegas and the Leitners don't work in those terminals anyway.

I have nothing against the TB grip, I just thought it was weird that it was a Leitner terminal using the TB grip rather than its own Leitner grips until Zage said that he terminal was custom built.

Wouldn't you think it's odd if you saw the TB grip on a high-speed quad with Doppelmayr terminals, I would? But then having a cutom made Leitner terminal with Poma stuff inside seems kind of weird to me also.

It's sad to see the old gondi go, even if it is only used to haul supplies. That lift actualy got me interested in lifts more than just from a stand point of riding them. Seeing that old line and the little bit of the terminal you could from the lodge intrigued me and got me interested in old lifts.

Its basically just a skin over the old poma stuff. I must say it looks pretty nice, a good re-incarnation of the old Super Gondola.

Those are definately some huge terminals. I wouldn't doubt if leitner just supplied LL with the number of sheet metal sections to cover the lift as i don't think that's a standard Leitner sized terminal. Hopefully it will get some paint after it's done or this summer as that matte finish looks rather gross.

It will be cool when the gondola opens. I might go to the grand opening.
