Homemade Private Chair Lift

Saw this a while back and recently came across it again. Anyone have any clue how he's legally able to keep this operating in a fairly public manner (as in, he posts a decent number of videos with the lift included)? I believe it's in Cali near Tahoe, so I'd have to imagine regulations are pretty tight.
Mainly just curious as I'm daydreaming about building something similar in the distant future.

Well so long it's on a private land and for it's own exclusive use I guess you can do nearly what you want ;)

Every state is different, of course. In New Hampshire, any tramway installation (including private) needs to be approved by the New Hampshire Passenger Tramway Safety Board; design and construction to be certified by a NH licensed engineer to meet current standards.

Was looking up trying to find literature about NH tramway safety standards per what william b said. I think if you're after specifics you want section 300 here : http://www.gencourt....encies/pas.html

But yeah between the lack of any way to stop/start the lift other than interacting with that motor, the carrier with no safety bar (or backrest lol) using what appears to be surface lift towers (narrow line gauge) and wheels for a chairlift (not a huge problem if it's just you there, but it might go against the grain for regulations designed around lifts that move hundreds) that chair would probably not see approval here, and assuming other new england states are as strict as here, you'd have to move pretty far to do it.

He is the manager of an engineering company and used to work at Falls Creek ski resort. Almost all the parts are being fabricated by his own company, so it isn't as expensive as it looks. The hill behind his house only rarely gets a light dusting of snow, so he won't be using it for skiing, he just likes chairlifts, so he is building one for his own amusement.

I´m able to present a further one that i had built for an alpinform.com friend in 2018/19.
The 1Clf is a short but passenger usable showpiece built mostly from skilift scrap parts (Stemag, Doppelmayr, Girak, Wiener Brückenbau) that the owner collected since his youth. Rather unique 3 KW electric drive using a motorcycle chain as bullwheel connection to provide a heavy gear. Buildings, concrete foundations and all the lovely optical gimmicks had been done by the owner itselves.
