Vail Resorts continues to expand

Surprised no-one’s mentioned this. VR bought Stevens Pass, Sunapee, Okemo, and Crested Butte last week. CB is also currently looking for a mechanic and an electrician, for what it’s worth.

Quite a big deal for Vail, strengthening their regional holdings for the Pacific Northwest and the East Coast while also adding a big time resort in the home state of Colorado. Lots more new lifts to come for those places too!

I think it's interesting how many people I've seem complaining about it. Specifically from the Seattle area.

Not sure why they would complain. I get the obvious problem with your hill being bought by Vail, but having access to Whistler Blackcomb on the same pass has got to be a huge benefit.

Yeah but how many folks out there are not into traveling and generally ski only 1 or 2 hills

Maybe this will help them expand their horizons...or they will continue to ski 1 or 2 other hills.

For what it's worth, since Vail bought one of the major Australian resorts (Perisher) in 2015, many Australians heading to North America for a ski fix in our summer (your winter) have gone to Vail resorts because people with a Perisher season pass get discounted or free lift tickets at Vail resorts.

I know a couple of Perisher skiers who used to ski at Silver Star in British Columbia who now ski at Vail resorts instead.

I suspect this is a factor behind the purchase of Stevens. That place is so busy they have to turn people away. Ergo, feeder hill.

‘Well, there goes the neighbourhood’. I’ve heard this grumbling as well. Doesn’t seem to be founded on anything specific, though.

You heard the same thing in Salt Lake after the PCMR buy, even though it was already a corporate resort. I think it's somewhat unfounded, plenty of corporate resorts have great local culture. Think Big Sky.
